JESUS NEEDS YOU AND YOU NEED JESUS

~ AND ~

THE ADORATION PROGRAM NEEDS YOU!

As most of you are aware, Blessed Sacrament Parish has been blessed to have had the wonderful devotion of Perpetual Adoration in our parish for 26 ½ years wherein someone is present adoring and keeping watch with our Eucharistic Lord day and night. For many years, we, the committee, were happy to say that hardly an hour was ever missed, but in the last five years or so, we have not been able to make that claim. Although we try very hard to keep all hours  filled, we have been unable to as many adorers have either moved, died, or due to age or various reasons, have not been able to maintain a regular hour. We presently have around 25 hours that are open.

We know how busy people are and that there are not enough hours in the day to get things done, however, when you make a commitment to give Jesus an hour of your time and keep watch with Him, whether weekly, semi-monthly or monthly, you will be pleasantly surprised by what that hour does for you and your life as well as for your family.

We ask that you please consider taking an hour, if not permanently, at least for during Lent. If a person cannot take a weekly hour, a semi-monthly or even a once a month hour would really help us. We could fill a number of the night hours, if enough people came forward to say they would go once a month. Substitutes are also needed for both day and night hours, wherein you specify the time or times that you are available. Being a sub does not mean that you have to go when called, but only when the time specified works out for you.

Some people may be afraid to commit to an assigned hour and to those, we would like to reassure, that if something comes up—illness vacation, etc., that the hour will be filled with a sub.

We encourage you to pray about taking an hour. If you have any questions about the program or if you have a specific hour you would like when it comes open, please let us know.

The open hours (as of 5/6/12) are:

Sun: 1 a.m. 2 a.m. 3 a.m. 12 midnight; Mon: 2 a.m. 3 a.m. 3 p.m.; Tues: 2 a.m. 3 a.m. 11 p.m. (every other week); Wed: 1 a.m. 12 midnight; Thurs: 1 a.m. 2 a.m.; Fri: 1 a.m. 3 a.m. (twice a month), 4 a.m. 1 p.m. 4 p.m. 6 p.m. (three times a month); Sat. 12 midnight

Please call one of the committee members: Cathy – 423-6844, Lois – 423-1949, Kathy – 423-1883.

“My Lord and My God”

“God is indeed ever-present. But again, the physical presence of the risen Christ is something different, something new. The risen Lord enters into our midst. And then we can do no other than say, with Saint Thomas: “My Lord and My God!” Adoration is primarily an act of faith – the act of faith as such. God is not just some possible or impossible hypothesis concerning the origin of all things. He is present. And if he is present, then I bow down before Him. Then my intellect and will and heart open up towards Him and from Him. In the risen Christ, the incarnated God is present, who suffered for us because He loves us. We enter this certainty of God’s tangible love for us with love in our own hearts. This is adoration, and this then determines my life. Only thus can I celebrate the Eucharist correctly and receive the body of the Lord rightly.” – (Pope Benedict XVI, Christmas Address to Curia, Dec. 22, 2011).
