The Education Commission coordinates the development, planning and promotion of programs and events that address the religious education needs of the parishioners.
Blessed Sacrament Grade School Volunteers
School volunteers are always welcome to help teachers and staff prepare materials for classes, assist in classrooms and with general clerical tasks. Hours required are your personal preference. For the safety of our children, all volunteers will be subject to background checks.
Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)
PTA gives parents and the school staff a great communication opportunity. Members help coordinate special projects for the grade school, including a Christmas brunch for the staff and Fun Night during Catholic School’s week. Time required: Officers attend for a quarterly board meeting and members attend 4 meetings through the school year.
Athletic Committee
Organize schedules, coaches and uniforms for all Blessed Sacrament school teams, as well as schedule workers for concession stand during games. Coaches prepare and lead the school team in volleyball, track, soccer and basketball. Time required: varies from 1 hour up to 5 hours per week during the sporting season.
CCD Coordinators & Teachers
Provide religious instruction to parishioners’ children who attend public school. Training and materials are provided. Time requirement: one night per week teaching and about two hours prep time during the school year.
Godparents
The Godparent program provides all Catholic high school students direction in the Catholic faith and gives high school students an adult mentor. The Godparent and Godteens meet for 1 hour on Wednesday evenings during the school year in the Godparent’s home. The time commitment includes preparing for the weekly meeting and the time with the Godteens. Godparents follow the students from their freshman year until graduation.
RCIA – Participants & Sponsors
Doctrine class for people wishing to become Catholic or Catholics interested in learning more about their faith. Classes follow the school year and are about 2 hours long.
Vacation Bible School Helpers
Plan, coordinate and/or volunteer during a one-week summer Vacation Bible School session.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
This preschool catechesis is rooted in the Bible and the liturgy of the church, and follows the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children form a relationship with the Good Shepherd through hands-on work with beautiful materials.
